The post below was originally written to announce the rules of a photo contest for my clients. It turned out to be an exciting opportunity for them and a business builder, too. Facebook rules change all the time, so be sure to check the current regulations before copying the contest. At the time of this contest, you could not have people "like" photos on your facebook page as an entry, and external apps were required to facilitate contests. It was also against the rules to announce winners on your facebook page.
I chose Rafflecopter because it is widely used and would be more recognizable to my clients, and it is free. Clients were allowed to nominate any photo that had been posted on my business facebook page from July - December (a previous contest ran for the first half of the year). Then the voting was open. I found opening the voting for 1 week reduces the "annoyance" level created by my clients constantly asking for votes over a longer period of time and kept the contest from becoming stale. The Rafflecopter app allows you to require liking your facebook page as an entry. You can add additional entry opportunities, too (like following your Twitter, sharing, etc.), but I chose to keep it simple. The pictures were posted here on the blog and on the facebook page during the contest. The winner received a 16 x 20 canvas of a pre-purchased portrait of their choice. Choosing a prize that was "worth it" to the clients was a key in running a successful game. It was a real hit and helped local people find my business, increased the SEO of my photography page, and rewarded my current clients for allowing me to post their pictures on facebook. All who entered received a small prize.
Thanks to all who participated and voted! The votes were very close!
And the winner is...
Entry #6 - Newborn Frosty
Which image from 2012 deserves the title "Best of 2012"? One lucky client will win a 16x20 gallery wrapped canvas and your votes will decide the winner. All of the contest photos are listed on the KJ Bradley Photography facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/KJBradleyPhotography. Photos that were nominated by fans are located in an album called "Best of 2012 Entries." Each photo has an entry number in the caption. Vote by that number. Voting begins on January 6 and closes at the end of the day on January 13. To vote, use the contest widget below to

AND THEN YOU CAN
#2 - Vote! (Using the voting engine below, you will be asked to enter the number of the photo from the facebook "Best of 2012" album "Entry # ..."
Due to facebook rules, only the votes made here on the blog will count, but you can help your friends by commenting on their photo on the facebook page and sharing. This will send the photo into your friends' facebook news feed and increase the odds that it will receive additional votes. (Hint: If you get tired of seeing everyone's comment, just go back to the photo and click "unfollow post.") You are welcome to comment on this blog post to cheer on your favorite as well!
The winner will be announced here on January 14.
Notes: This contest is not sponsored or endorsed by facebook. The winner may select a photo from their 2012 KJ Bradley Photography session for their canvas. The winning canvas order must be placed by January 31, 2013.
